Programming a Toyota Yaris 2022-2024 with Lost 8A Keys Using the Autel IM608
Vehicle: 2022 Toyota Yaris GR (UK), equipped with an 8A bar key.
Issue: All keys lost, and need to program new keys using the Autel IM608.
Step-by-Step Process:
Read the Immobilizer (Immo) Box on the Bench:
Attempt to read the Immo box on the workbench using the Autel IM608.
Note that the connectors in the Immo box may differ from those shown in typical diagrams.
This Immo box is commonly referred to as the “estate box.”
Identify Pinouts:
Use the following pinout diagram for the Immo box:
Pin 4: Plus (+)
Pin 5: T3
Pin 6: Ignition
Pin 9: K7
Pin 12: Ground (-)
Connect the correct pins to the Autel IM608 for direct communication with the Immo box.
Read IMMO Data in Direct Mode:
Use the Autel IM608’s Direct Mode to read immobilizer data.
Connect the Immo box to the IM608 using the Autel 8A Non-Smart AKL Cable and Gbox3.
Perform an Immobilizer Status Scan:
Run a scan to check the status of the immobilizer.
Clear any error codes before proceeding with key programming.
Program the New Key:
Use the Autel IM608 to add a new key to the vehicle.
Once key programming is complete, reinstall the Immo box in the vehicle.
Test the Vehicle:
After programming, install the newly programmed immobilizer back into the car and test by starting the vehicle.
Special Considerations:
If you’re working with a 2023-2024 Yaris Cross (EU), the Immo box may belong to the 3rd Generation H Key system.
Many diagnostic tools, including the Autel IM608, may not be compatible with this particular estate box for reading or resetting keys.
In such cases, you will need to replace the immobilizer box, register the new key via the TIS Challenge Code, and sync the Immo-ECU through diagnostics.
The same immobilizer box is found in other Toyota models, such as the Corolla MZEA1 and Hiace 300 series.
For Vehicles with No Aftermarket Support:
Remove the Immo Box:
The immobilizer box is located under the dash. You’ll need to remove it for replacement.
Obtain Required Parts:
Purchase a new immobilizer box, a key with an 8A chip, and a genuine remote from a Toyota dealer.
Register the New Unit:
After installation, you must call a certified technician to perform an online synchronization between the immobilizer and the ECU following Toyota’s factory procedure.
This approach should help resolve issues with lost keys for Toyota Yaris and other similar models equipped with the 8A key system.
