Follow these steps to perform a Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) Metering Valve Test on Mack and Volvo engines EPA 13 – GHG17 using a JPRO diagnostic tool: This test is important to ensure the dispensing system is operating properly and can also be used to exit induction mode after replacing a dispense valve and clear any associated Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
Steps to Perform the DEF Dosing Valve Test
1. Select the DEF Dosing Valve Test
– Launch the JPRO diagnostic tool.
– Navigate to the DEF Dosing Valve Test and press Enter or click the Start button.
2. Configure Monitored Data
– The tool will display the Configure Monitored Data screen for the DEF Dosing Valve Test.
– Select parameters from the Available list and click the Add button to move them to the Selected list.
– To remove parameters from the Selected list, highlight the parameter and click the Remove button.
– Once done selecting parameters, click the OK button to proceed, or Cancel to return to the test selection dialog.
3. Review Test Information
– The DEF Dosing Valve Test dialog will provide important information about steps to take before running the test.
– Click the Next button to view detailed test instructions.
4. Prepare for the Test
– Follow instructions for removing the DEF Dosing Valve.
– Click the Next button to continue.
5. Preconditions and Test Selection
– Ensure all preconditions are met for the test.
– Select the specific DEF Dosing Valve test to perform.
– Click the Start button to begin the test. This process may take a few minutes.
6. Observe Spray Patterns and Quantity
– The dialog will display examples of correct and problematic spray patterns.
– Observe the valve as it dispenses DEF into the collection container.

7. Review Test Results
– Upon test completion, the results will be displayed, including steps to take based on the quantity of DEF dispensed.
– If needed, you can perform the test again by clicking the Test Selection button.
8. Post-Test Procedures

– Click the Exit button to return to the bi-directional test selection dialog.
